// confinement

Henry was a normal guy. He lived alone, worked an unremarkable job, came home every night to an empty apartment and a cozy couch parked in front of the TV and the promise of doing it all again the next day. He did this for two years, and was perfectly happy with his life.

One day, Henry woke to find that his apartment door had been elaborately locked up from the inside, chains running across it from hooks buried deep into the walls. A realistic thinker, he did everything he could to try and get out, from calling the police (the phone didn't work) to breaking the windows (they wouldn't break), to yelling for help (no one heard him). He could see his neighbor, Eileen, through a tiny peephole in the living room wall, but she never noticed...

His only escape, a mysterious tunnel in his bathroom wall, led him to a nightmare world beyond his wildest imaginings. There he encountered many other people-- all of whom died horribly within hours of meeting him. He met Eileen, as well... and for a moment, it seemed as though she had been murdered too. But he found her again in that terrible world, and together they journeyed into the heart of the nightmare and defeated Walter, a mad conjurer believing his lost mother the apartment Henry lived in.

Freed, Henry escaped into reality and left his apartment to see Eileen in the hospital. He didn't return home.

Henry never set foot in room 302 again. After spending several weeks in and out of motels, he finally made the decision to move. He didn't know where, didn't know what he'd do when he got there, but he had to go and it had to be as far away as possible. What could be further from his old life than a whole new universe?

Most of his stuff didn't come with him: he sold a great deal (which proved to be a very sound investment), destroyed some (some things he couldn't inflict on anyone, knowing what they'd done), and the rest he sent for after settling into the small flat he'd rented in the city of Arcadia. Ashfield was supposed to have been his new life; hopefully Arcadia would prove to be the real thing.

Eventually, he got himself a decent job at some no-name office. Hated it, of course, and longed to revisit his interests in art and photography and journalism. The university was right there, mere blocks from where he lived now, so Henry eventually decided to take a couple classes. If not for a future career change, at least to stave off the soul-sucking tedium of his current job.

It's been almost a year since that time. Henry is starting over, and trying to be happy again...

In all his interactions with people, Henry is polite, quiet, and direct. He's highly introverted; none of his neighbors knew a thing about him, since he just came and went like a ghost and never talked to anyone. He doesn't waste time with small talk, though he's probably capable of it in less frantic situations. His shyness can give him a bit of a young-boyish charm, along with a sort of default friendliness: it doesn't seem very hard to get him to like you. He returns kindness with kindness, and if he dislikes someone he'll probably just ignore them, or try to see them as little as possible. While he really doesn't seem to be a violent person at all except for the purpose of self-defense, it should be noted that he does tend to fight in a determined, calculated, and sometimes almost vicious way.

In spite of his aforementioned friendliness, Henry has become a great deal jumpier since his ordeal-- probably more so than his "colleagues," Harry, James, and Heather. This can almost certainly be attributed to the fact that whereas the first three went to Silent Hill of their own accord, Silent Hill came to Henry. Understandably, he now lives with a great deal of wariness that it could spring on him again. In addition, he does not close doors anymore. If he has no choice, he will certainly never lock them. A look into his living space reveals more about him than one might otherwise gather: he practically hoards food, the cabinets and refridgerator stuffed to capacity-- a result of the week he spent trapped in his own home, rapidly running out of things to eat. Where in his old apartment photographs he took in Silent Hill adorned the walls, now there are none. In fact, Henry has with him now precious few of the possessions he once had in his apartment... pun intended. He's become a little more superstitious than he once was, and the stubs of white candles can be found scattered throughout his room.
